AutumnFest at ACV

In keeping with the season, Advent Christian Village hosted Autumn Fest, A Community Connection. The October event offered a time for the Village and neighboring communities to gather in a fun, family atmosphere.
US Foodservice Company kicked off the event with a Forum, sharing information about their role as the second largest provider of food in the U.S. They also provide a majority of the foods offered at ACV. Then US Foodservice and (ACV’s) Phillips Dining Services presented the 2nd annual US Foodservice Food Show at Rumph Dining Room. Attendees had opportunity to sample everything from potato chips to roast duck.
On Friday, My Florida Green Council and Intercon Solutions were on hand to share ways to help protect the environment, including how to dispose of electronics in a way that is safe for the environment. Electronic devices frequently contain hazardous materials and should not be disposed of in landfills. A collection unit was on site for free disposal of unwanted electronics. Community members enjoyed dining on the river at the Village Café featuring an ‘Old South’ Fish Fry Buffet. ACV’s own Dick Grillo provided dinner music.
Saturday brought Market Day, with vendors and craftsmen setting up shop on the sidewalks at the Village Square. Live entertainment presented musical favorites throughout the day. Village dining services sold freshly baked goods, grilled Boston Butt and Barbequed Chicken. Representatives from community organizations manned booths to share their information and services. Everything from telephones for the hearing impaired to the local bank was represented.
The Lapidary Shop presented an open house & tour. Lapidary is the art of cutting and polishing stones for use in jewelry and more. A variety of jewelry, tumbled stones, fossils and minerals were available for sale. Local craftsmen showed their handcrafted jewelry and explained the art of Wire Wrapping and Silver Smithing.
Classic car buffs enjoyed the Classic Car Show out front at Good Samaritan Center. Residents and guests admired the models they remembered from days gone by.
There was something for everyone at the Autumn Fest, A Community Connection.
