Come for Golf, Guffaws and Growth at ACV

3/1/2017

Dennis Swanberg will deliver his family-friendly humor and impersonations to kick off Winter Retreat 2017 at Advent Christian Village on Friday, March 10, at 7:00 p.m.

This week is Advent Christian Village’s biennial Winter Retreat. Winter Retreat is ACV’s combination revival and homecoming event. Many activities of spiritual renewal, fun and fellowship are planned, and you are invited to participate.

Prior to the start of Winter Retreat, on Thursday, March 9, the Florida Conference of Advent Christian Churches (FCACC) will host the First Annual Camp Suwannee Golf Tournament — an 18-hole, two-man scramble fundraiser. Registration begins at noon and tee time is 1:00 at Madison Country Club in Madison, Florida. Everyone interested is invited to participate. The cost for the tournament — covering a round of golf, cart rental, and a celebratory cookout — is only $30 per person. All proceeds will be donated to Camp Suwannee. Those who do not play golf, but would like to donate, or who would like to contribute more to the fundraiser, may sponsor a hole for $25 or more. All funds should be given to Dr. Johnny Nicely (386-658-3023). For more information on the tournament, contact Gene Peters (386-658-1393).

Winter Retreat kicks off on Friday, March 10, and the event of the night is a comedy concert with humorist and impersonator Dennis Swanberg at the Village Church. Guests of all ages are sure to enjoy “America’s Minister of Encouragement” with his “40 years of wit coupled with a lifetime of wisdom.” Tickets are $10 per adult and $7 per student and may also be purchased from the Village Cashier (386-658-5343) or at the Village Lodge (386-658-5200). Tickets will be available at the door while supplies last.

Join us before the concert for an Italian buffet in Rumph Dining Room beginning at 5:00 p.m. The cost for the buffet will be $10 per person. Children 5–10 are half price, and children under five are free. Advance tickets may be purchased by calling the Village Cashier or at the Village Lodge.

An old fashioned picnic will take place at the Harmony Center/Alumni Circle on Saturday, March 11. Food — including hot dogs, hamburgers and sides — will be available to purchase for $5 a plate from noon until 2:00. From noon until 4:00, fun and games such as cornhole, ladderball, a pickleball exhibition, volleyball, board games, and much more will take place. Also, there will be opportunity for individuals or groups to sing during the festivities using a sound system for accompaniment. Any who are interested in singing should email Dave Buchanan at dbuc123@aol.com.

Saturday evening at 6:00, keynote speaker, Dr. Donna Petter, will deliver her first message at The Village Church. An expert in Old Testament studies, Dr. Petter is a teacher, a speaker and an author; she wrote the study notes on the book of Ezekiel for the New International Version Zondervan Study Bible (NIVZSB). Saturday’s message will be the first of her three messages focused on identity, based on Old Testament texts. Saturday’s message is titled “Identifying Identity.”

Dr. Petter will again speak during the 10:00 Sunday morning worship (“Identity Loss”) and the 6:00 Sunday evening worship (“Identity Restored”). Refreshments will be served after the two evening services, and the regular Sunday lunch buffet will be served in Rumph Dining Room.

Please plan to take part in several — if not all — of the Winter Retreat events. We hope to see you there.
