Since its founding in 1913 by the Advent Christian denomination, Advent Christian Village has been devoted to serving others. Originally a home for orphaned children and retired ministers and missionaries, the community’s growth over the years has been dramatic. Decades of experience have reinforced its commitment to service, and given rise to innovative programs and a full range of services for senior adults, families with special needs, and children.
Even after a century of service, ACV's focus remains the same: to express Christ's love by ministering to the needs of people of all backgrounds.
With leading edge medical facilities, a comprehensive wellness and fitness center, in-home services, cultural arts programs, professional services and businesses, Advent Christian Village combines the amenities of a larger metropolitan area with the charm of a small town. And at Advent Christian Village, there are no entrance fees.
This accredited community is situated on 1,200 acres of woodlands and scenic landscapes in the heart of north central Florida, between Tallahassee and Jacksonville. Some people call this the “original” Florida — our members just call it home.
One Hundred Years of Innovative Ministry
From its earliest days, the Village has endeavored to keep pace with the ever-changing needs of society. ACV became a trailblazer among retirement communities, accomplishing many “firsts” along the way, and is known as a forward-thinking organization with a heart for people. Founded 100 years ago as an orphanage and home for retired ministers and missionaries, today, Advent Christian Village is a thriving community of nearly 800 individuals from all faiths, beliefs and walks of life. Even after 100 years, the mission remains the same: to express Christ’s love through service to others.
To remain relevant in ministry and capable of fulfilling its mission, ACV has relied upon divine guidance brought about through prayerful planning. In 1988, during its 75th Anniversary Celebration, Village leadership continued its strategic thinking by developing a 20-year master development plan, which foresaw the need for a number of service-oriented buildings as well as additional and expanded housing options. This plan laid the groundwork for expansion and improvements for many years to come and enabled ACV to respond appropriately to the changing needs of those it serves. With the dramatic improvements that have come since then, the community has evolved into one that is able to provide the quality, comprehensive services that will meet the needs of the community for years to come.
In preparation for the future, Village leadership evaluated ACV’s current standing, and recognized with thanksgiving that God’s hand of blessing has remained on Advent Christian Village throughout its history. Seeing that the community is well equipped in the area of services, they prayerfully contemplated the course for the future.
