Faithful Team Member Celebrates 45 Years at ACV

It was June 1976.  Gerald Ford was president, and as a country, we were preparing to celebrate our bicentennial birthday, a gallon of gasoline cost $0.59 and Mary Crawford began her career at Advent Christian Village.

Much has changed in this community over these past 45 years.  Since 1976 ACV has added the Carter House, the Good Samaritan Center, the Village Church, the Village Square, Copeland Community Center, River Woods, Copeland Medical Center, Adams Emergency Services Station, Kite, and Wackerlin Lodges at Camp Suwannee, Taylor Commons, Watkins Woodworking and Lapidary Shop and Polk Ceramics Shop.

Mary began her career working for Pomeroy Carter but moved to become Jim Humbles’ administrative assistant within a couple of months.  She has served as the Executive Assistant to the President since 1996 when Jim Humbles was appointed President/CEO.

Mary is greatly committed to the ministries of Advent Christian Village.  She puts the needs and well-being of those we serve first.  She is a dedicated and caring team player always willing to do what it takes to get the job done.  She has a great work ethic and is most organized.  In addition to accomplishing the administrative duties of the office of the President, she is also the keeper of corporate records.  Her vast knowledge of the workings of ACV is invaluable.

Mary has two daughters who grew up attending Wee Care.  Renee is currently a school nurse in Columbia County and Monica is following in her mother’s footsteps serving here at ACV as our Director of Housing Services.

In her spare time, Mary enjoys spending time with family, particularly her three grandchildren.  She also enjoys eating out and an occasional trip to the beach or to the mountains.

During Mary’s 45 years at ACV, the United States has elected 9 different presidents and this ministry has had three.  The current president is known to quite regularly declare that Mary cannot retire until he does!

In all seriousness, Mary epitomizes what it means to be a humble servant and to give her whole self to further the ministries of Advent Christian Village.  She always serves with excellence and looks out for ACV’s best interest.  It is a great privilege to recognize Mary Crawford for her 45 years of faithful ministry.
