Advent Christian Village at Dowling Park (ACV) is much more than just a nursing home; it is truly a village, with homes, apartments, stores, restaurants, a medical center … the list goes on. Despite ACV’s diverse and varied offerings, its nursing home, Good Samaritan Center (GSC) — a skilled nursing community offering short-term rehabilitation stays and long-term nursing care — is a big part of Advent Christian Village’s continuum of care. Because of its importance, for the better part of three years, GSC has been undergoing a complete renovation — and we are happy to report that the renovations have reached a milestone.
The first priority on the renovation project was to upgrade all the living areas. Good Samaritan Center offers 161 beds in both private and semi-private rooms. Each room is part of one of three neighborhoods: Dogwood, Magnolia or Camelia. Every resident room received a complete makeover including new floors, ceiling, paint, furniture, and a new individual air conditioning unit. Each resident room now looks and feels more “home like,” and is even more comfortable.
Also upgraded were the common areas. Each neighborhood contains several areas where residents gather to play games, work on projects, learn new skills, watch TV, exercise, and spend quality time with each other and with guests. Adjacent to these areas are nurses’ stations for monitoring. These areas were upgraded to create more efficient workspaces for the nursing staff and more space for residents to participate in their choice of activities and events. When walking through Good Samaritan Center, you might find a group working on a puzzle together or participating in a morning exercise group, or relaxing in a comfortable recliner after lunch with a movie or an old western.
A dining and activity room was renovated in GSC’s memory care neighborhood, giving residents living there greater opportunity for meaningful interactions and activities. Large windows in the dining area invite the sunshine in and provide lovely views during meal times.
While we are excited about the completion of these improvements, we’re not quite finished. There are still a few areas yet to tackle before we can deem this project complete. The floors of Good Samaritan Center’s dining rooms will next be replaced. Following that, GSC’s therapy department will be completely renovated to give additional space for physical, speech and occupational therapy appointments. Also, new equipment will be added to enhance the rehabilitative services provided by GSC’s therapy team, allowing us to continue to provide the highest level of care.
