Since Advent Christian Village (ACV) announced its new Master Development Plan in October 2013, the members and friends of the Village have been watching and waiting as the stretch of Dowling Park Drive opposite the Village Square and Village Centre underwent a dramatic transformation. Buildings were removed, trees were felled, truckloads of dirt were brought in, power lines were buried, new water and sewer lines were installed, foundations were poured, walls and roofs were erected … What was old has become new.
Where two cinderblock duplexes once stood, now there is a two-story apartment building and a four-apartment row house. The row house is the first of five new dwellings which, along with Cleo’s Meeting House—a community building, will make up ACV’s new Taylor Commons neighborhood.
The afternoon of May 8, two units of the row house were open for walk-throughs. Visitors were able to browse the first finished product of the construction they had been watching. Next door, in another unit of the row house, the first residents of Taylor Commons were moving into their brand new home. Since then, another home has been occupied. The final two units of the finished row house have also been reserved.
Most of the two-story apartment building, Lawrence House, is still available. The building is scheduled to be finished this Summer. Each apartment will feature two bedrooms, one and a half baths, an open concept, and a detached garage. The 1,045 sq. ft. homes will rent for $1,250 a month with water included. An added bonus included is one-hour per week of housekeeping services.
Following the completion of Lawrence House and Cleo’s Meeting House, three more six-apartment row houses will be constructed, bringing the total number of rental homes in Taylor Commons to 30.
