Musical Variety in Dowling Park in mid-October

The Gateway City Big Band of Lake City will bring the sounds of the great big bands of the 1930s and 40s to Dowling Park Oct. 15.

Advent Christian Village’s Live! at Dowling Park artist series is brining two musical treats to the community in the same week! Lake City’s Gateway City Big Band will bring the World War-era big band sound to Dowling Park Monday, Oct. 15. On Friday, Oct. 19, southern gospel soloist Alan Kendall will perform.

The Gateway City Big Band has been bringing the smooth and swinging sounds of the Big Band Era to north Florida since 1993. Started by the former conductor of Walt Disney’s Top of the World Orchestra, Harry Wuest, the band continues to echo the sounds of the great big bands of the 1930s and 40s, as well as including more modern selections and contemporary arrangements for today’s listeners.

Under the direction of ACV friend Matt Johns, a former member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, this group of exceptional musicians delights their audiences. The band’s extensive library contains selections from Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and many, many more!

Alan Kendall will sing at Advent Christian Village Oct. 19.

Very generous accolades are being paid consistently, by both fans and peers, to Christian music’s Alan Kendall. Alan’s music is steeped in ministry, but he also performs a wide range of musical styles. Alan has been blessed to perform on some major stages, including the National Quartet Convention, Dollywood, Grand Ole Gospel Reunion, Memphis Quartet Show, Gospel Jubilee Cruise, and numerous fairs and festivals across the country. Alan performs anywhere that invites him to present his music. One can be assured that when attending a performance by Alan, you will certainly be entertained, and Alan will work to present the stirring messages of the songs!

Please join us for both concerts, Oct. 15 Gateway City Big Band and Oct. 19 Alan Kendall. Both concerts will begin at 7:00 p.m. and take place at The Village Church. Visit or call (386) 658-5557 for more details.
